UPDATES
Over the last couple of years the whanau of the Ataiti Te Rehu Hoterene Trust have mobilised themselves and have collaboratively agreed to pursue the life long aspiration of their mother, grandmother and great mother to have their whenua removed from the Te Orewai Te Horo Trust. In order to have the whenua partitioned or removed from the Trust the whanau had to follow a process according to and determined by the Maori land court. This process included consultation with the shareholders within the Te Horo 3 No Blocks 1-31 block as well as signed consent from the Trustees of the Te Orewai Te Horo Trust. This was a lengthy process that began in 2019 and the application to partition was lodged by Arvay Armstrong-Read in the Maori land court on the 16th February 2021. This application requested that the sole owned blocks belonging to Ataiti be the priority for the partition and then the multiple owned blocks were secondary. The application currently sits in the maori land court being processed and investigated before this application is heard in the maori land court. A letter was received from the Maori land court recently to confirm its current status. We are currently awaiting a court hearing date for this application , which could take several years given the complexities associated with any lands situated within the Te Horo 3 No Blocks 1-31. In the meantime it is an ideal time for the whanau to begin to discuss the development of a strategic plan which will fulfil the aspirations of the whanau for the whenua. It is also timely to review how the current homestead will be managed.
Consultation Presentation
This presentation was made to the Shareholders of the Te Horo No 3 Blocks 1-31 on the 10th October 2020.
It was then presented to the trustees of the Te Orewai Te Horo Trust on the 4th November 2020 at Nga Manga Puriri office at Kamo, Whangarei from 11.00 - 12.30pm.
